Ngapuhi Iwi Social Services review

The board and Chief Executive of Ngapuhi Iwi Social Services (NISS) – a subsidiary of Te Runanga A Iwi O Ngapuhi (TRAION) – has stepped down pending a comprehensive review of the organisation.

NISS is responsible for delivering iwi social services to Ngapuhi whanui, principally through government and community funded contracts.

The board of Te Runanga A Iwi O Ngapuhi - under the chairmanship of Sonny Tau – took over the governance of NISS at the iwi’s AGM on 28 October.

Ms Alva Pomare, a previous NISS board member, has been appointed Acting Manager overseeing Finance and Contract negotiations. She reports directly to the Te Runanga A Iwi O Ngapuhi Chief Executive and Board.

Established in 1997, NISS has offices in Kaikohe with an annual revenue of $2m and 35 staff.

Te Runanga A Iwi O Ngapuhi Chairman Sonny Tau said: “We believe this review and the changes that will inevitably flow from it will substantially improve the governance, management and delivery of services to Ngapuhi whanui. This can only be good news for our people.”
