Metro advertising campaign starts this weekend

A Metro advertising campaign is starting on Sunday November 12 with a television commercial which highlights the advantages of using the bus. The campaign also includes advertising on bus shelters, in newspapers and on the backs of buses.

The funding for the campaign is part of Environment Canterbury’s public passenger transport funding budget, which annually amounts to $28 million.

The 30-second television advertisement, a first for the highly successful Christchurch Metro system, will feature on TV 1, 2 and 3 between this Sunday and December 10. It re-run for intermittent periods over the next three years.

“The key message of the new campaign is the reliability, convenience, economy, and lack of parking hassles when you use the Metro system,” said Cr Nicky Wagner, ECan chair of public passenger transport. “You don't have to park it, you don't have to clean it, you don't have to fill it with gas, you don't have to insure it. And with summer coming the bus will take you to a huge range of fabulous destinations - the beach, the pools, the central city, the malls, the movies - all without the stress of carparking or driving there.

“We’ve got an internationally-renowned bus transport system in Christchurch with several groups of overseas transport planners visiting us to check us out. With Christmas coming, let’s use this great Metro service and reduce our holiday stress all round. I challenge everyone to leave the car at home and test out the bus, even if they haven’t done it since school,” said Cr Wagner.
