Auckland City Councillors briefed on stadium

Auckland City Councillors briefed on stadium options

Auckland City Councillors were today briefed on Auckland stadium options for Rugby World Cup 2011.

The presentations were;

Carlaw Park

Eden Park stadium, presented by Rob Fisher and the Eden Park Trust Board

Stadium New Zealand, the waterfront option, presented by Hon Trevor Mallard

Only two options are being considered by central government; Eden park and Stadium New Zealand.

Information from today’s presentations will be discussed further in a councillor workshop tomorrow afternoon.

The presentations and workshop are designed to provide councillors with more of the necessary information to assist them in reaching a decision at a council meeting next Thursday, 23 November.

Additional information including urban design considerations, transport opportunities, economic benefits, precinct development opportunities, mixed-use options and public opinion is currently being compiled to further inform councillors next week.

The councillors agreed on an earlier preference for a waterfront stadium at the 12 October council meeting.

Central government have requested a final stadium preference from Auckland City Council and Auckland Regional Council by Friday, 24 November.
