Volunteer Stories on a ‘Soap Box’

Volunteer Stories on a ‘Soap Box’

Inner city Wellington will be able to hear volunteer stories on a ‘soap box’ to mark International Volunteer Day Tuesday 5 December 2006.

The stories, with Mayor Kerry Prendergast and the Hon Marian Hobbs leading the way, will be part of a celebratory barbecue lunch being held in the garden/courtyard of Community House, 84 Willis St.

Throughout the world, where volunteers are a major resource for enlivening and sustaining communities through projects associated with the not-for-profit sector, 5 December is a significant day set up by the United Nations more than two decades go.

This is a day to celebrate, recognise, reward and acknowledge volunteers. So follow the balloons which will be in the streets that day. Come along and join in by sharing the barbecue and telling your volunteering story – in one minute – or listen to others doing the telling, at 84 Willis Street in the heart of Wellington.

The lunchtime soapbox session and barbecue is being hosted by the community group tenants of Community House with support from Wellington City Council’s City Communities. Ring Volunteer Wellington on 499 4570 if you require more information.
