Proposed
Auckland City Ban On Billboards – “From The Sublime To
The Ridiculous”
“Billboards are part of the tradition
and personality of downtown Auckland. They give Auckland
City a point of difference, vibrancy and life compared to
other world cities,” says Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO
Michael Barnett.
Obviously there needs to be some
management of the billboards’ content and location, as no
doubt occurs in other world cities with strong billboard
personalities such as Times Square in New York and
Piccadilly Circus in London.
“With the significant
revenue loss the City is also proposing to forego, banning
billboards is bureaucracy gone
mad!”
