Airport supermarket limiting alcohol sale welcome

Media Release

Airport supermarket’s decision to limit alcohol sales welcomed

Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis is welcoming the decision by Foodtown at Auckland International Airport to reduce the hours it sells alcohol.

Foodtown Airport is now selling alcohol between 7am and 11pm, instead of 24 hours a day.

“This is a welcome response to community concerns about alcohol and the problems it is causing.

“There are no longer any outlets in Manukau selling alcohol 24 hours a day, which can only be a good thing. As I’ve said previously, I don’t think supermarkets should sell alcohol all night long, as it is completely unnecessary.

“It is good to see Foodtown working closely with the liquor licensing team and police on this matter.”
