Wealth of ways to push play

Want to have fun being active this summer but don’t know where to start?

Help is at hand with two action-packed summer events programmes: Wellington City Council’s Push Play Summer and Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Regional Outdoors Programme 2007.

Push Play Summer offers four months of outdoor activities from December to March, ranging from audio walks and Sneaky Peaky hill walks, to Push Play activities in local parks. There are also walking and running programmes to get you started on a permanent path to fitness.

Wellington City Council Sport and Recreation Portfolio Leader, Councillor John Morrison, says the programme’s goal is to help people enjoy being active this summer.

“People want to enjoy recreation but many don’t know where to start. This programme will show them how and where to do it in Wellington’s beautiful outdoors, through facilitated activities or by themselves. And best of all, it’s fun and free.”

The Regional Outdoors Programme has over 40 events ranging from the Nature Discovery Treasure Hunt in Kaitoke Regional Park’s stunning low-land rainforest to Paws in the Park, where you can bring your dog for a walk through Tunnel Gully’s beautiful podocarp forest.

Greater Wellington’s Landcare Committee Chair, Councillor Chris Laidlaw, says the programme of guided walks and adventures makes it even easier for all the family to enjoy the region’s environmental and recreational treasures.

“All of the outdoor events are under an hour’s drive from Wellington city, so the programme is an excellent opportunity to check out a park that you haven’t visited before, and get out and about in our parks and forests.”
