Media release / update in relation to the firearms incident in Peachwood Grove Mangere overnight.....

"Mangere Police today continued investigation into a firearms incident in Mangere in the early hours of 24 December. An 18-year-old South Auckland man has been arrested in relation to the incident, and will appear in the Manukau District Court on 26/12/06. He currently faces one charge of attempted murder. The investigation is on-going, and further charges are possible.

"A shotgun has also been recovered by Police, along with a number of live rounds of ammunition.

"A number of the parties involved in this incident have connections with South Auckland street gangs. This aspect of the investigation has not been looked into with any great detail at this time, and it has yet to be established that gang rivalry has been a factor in this incident."
