With the success of the Tainui and Maniopoto games a similar concept will be adopted for the Te Whakataetae Pare Hauraki Games. The kaupapa is of participation and enjoyment while the theme is whakawhaanaungataanga. No firm date has been set to hold the event in 2008 although most of the events will be based in Paeroa.
Sports on offer include athletics, bowls, darts, golf, rugby, squash and pool are just some of the 28 activities planned.
Hauraki whanui have been involved in different sports for many years such as basketball, touch and netball. Some have gone on to represent the area and the country.
There is a mountain load of sports activitiy happening this year where Hauraki whanui are participants. Its just a matter of tapping into that environment and assembling them under the Te Whakataetae Pare Hauraki Games.
There are others who have vast have experiences in administration, planning events and organising sports teams. These are the people we require to come on board and assist organisers in getting this event off the ground next year
Our Marae play an important role and will be the focus of all participants, who will be required to register with the Hauraki Marae they wish to represent and MUST be affiliated to that Marae. A Panui or newsletter is being sent to Marae and Iwi reps this week. A Hui is planned for 25 February.
