Tricky Wind Change Auckland Anniversary Regatta
Tricky Wind Change For Auckland Anniversary Regatta
MetService meteorologists are forecasting that a frontal system may produce tricky conditions for the Auckland anniversary day regatta on Monday.
"This cold front is approaching Tasmania today and is on track to be crossing the South Island late on Sunday and then the North Island on Monday", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "Winds in the Hauraki Gulf are likely to be from a northerly direction at the start of Monday along with some rain, and then swing to be from a westerly direction with showers. There may be some gusts with the wind change, but conditions should settle soon after."
McDavitt added that the timing of this wind change is tricky. "Coastguard advises all boaties to keep up to date with the latest weather reports."
There is likely to be a brief period of rain from this front but it will not last all day. "After two very dry weeks this rain will be welcomed by all those with water tanks, but its timing may interfere briefly with some planned outdoor activities in the north on Monday."
