City Charity Appoints New Leadership

City Charity Appoints New Leadership

Methodist Mission Northern’s new Superintendent and Executive Director, Reverend John Murray, is being inducted this evening at the Mission’s Aotea Chapel.

Rev. John Murray replaces Keith Taylor who has recently retired from the position as Superintendent and Executive Director.

Raised in the King Country and having come from a forestry, engineering and truck driving background, Rev. John Murray has been a part of the Methodist Church of New Zealand ministry for over 28 years. During this time a range of parishes have benefited from his expert guidance and leadership.

Having been responsible for a number of parishes as a regional leader, Rev. John Murray soon became the Director of Mission Resourcing which required him to develop strategies and policies for the wider Methodist church.

More recently he has been the Chair of the Wesley College Trust Board, a board member of Methodist City Action, a community support organisation based in Hamilton, and Superintendent of the Waikato/Waiariki (Bay of Plenty) region.

Methodist Mission Northern has already made an impression on Rev. John Murray who has been in the role since the beginning of February.

“I’m impressed with the people that work here, their commitment to making the team work well, their commitment to making strategies that enable the people we support to grow and move onward in their lives. I feel quite humbled to have such a job and work with such people,” says Rev. John Murray.

The Methodist Mission Northern, one of Auckland’s oldest charities, addresses social issues, and has been serving and supporting the elderly, homeless and families for over 155 years’.
