Summer Concert Provides Winning Mix
Summer Concert Provides Winning Mix
Saturday night¹s
Sealord Night with the Stars at Nelson's Saxton Field proved
a winning mix of opera favourites, kiwi classics and even a
touch of vaudeville.
The show was enjoyed by the enthusiastic crowed and by the guest performers. Sir Howard Morrison, who has performed outdoors with the Auckland Philharmonic and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, said the enormity of an orchestral backing is inspiring.
³The concert tonight was a wonderful achievement to be part of - I loved the youth and vitality and the element of beautiful kiwi innocence that I always associate with Nelson.²
Vector Wellington Orchestra conductor Marc Taddei said Sealord Night with the Stars is one of his Œfavourite gigs¹.
³Being outdoors makes it less formal but with great music and tremendous soloists the standard is really high, people come here because they want to enjoy it - that is what music is all about.²
Nelson City Council Festival Director Annabel Norman said while pre-sales of tickets had been level with past years, the gate take was down. She said the final numbers wouldn¹t be known until all the information was in from regional outlets.
³It¹s clear the cloud cover and cooler breeze around tea time deterred some people,² she said. ³That was a shame as the rain didn¹t eventuate, but that is the nature of an outdoor event.²
The Sealord Summer Festival now has just one major event to come, the Fresh Choice Nelson Trolley Derby, set for the later date this year of March 10th.
