Changes to Hastings District wards
Changes to Hastings District wards
Hastings District Council has today received confirmation from the Local Government Commission of its decision on representation arrangement for the 2007 elections.
The Council will retain a ward system electing the mayor and 14 councillors – one less than at present.
The councillors will be
elected as follows:
Hastings Ward 6
councillors
Havelock North Ward 2 councillors
Flaxmere
Ward 2 councillors
Heretaunga Ward 2
councillors
Mohaka Ward 1 councillor
Kahuranaki Ward 1
councillor
Hastings District Mayor Lawrence Yule said
there were few surprises in the Local Government
Commission’s
decision.
“We were expecting this. The only thing we weren’t expecting is the change to the Heretaunga Ward which takes the present Clive and Heretaunga Wards and combines them,” said Mr Yule.
The new Heretaunga Ward will also include areas around School Road, Lane Road and Endsleigh Drive.
Boundaries have also changed for the Havelock North Ward.
Tutira and Kaweka Wards have been combined to make up the new Mohaka Ward, and Maraekakaho and Poukawa Wards have been combined to make up the new Kahuranaki Ward.
Some areas of the former Poukawa Ward have been transferred to the Havelock North Ward while other areas will become part of the Heretaunga Ward.
The new boundaries will also affect the Hastings District Rural Community Board. Tutira, Kaweka, Maraekakaho and Poukawa will become ‘subdivisions’ of the board. Each of these will provide one member of the Rural Community Board. The Mohaka and Kahuranaki councillors will also sit on the board.
The elections will be held on Saturday 13 October 2007.
