Rewarding Wellington's Valued Volunteers
NEWS RELEASE
It's time to reward Wellington's valued volunteers!
All hail not-for-profits! The Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards offer recognition to volunteer and not-for-profit groups for their important contributions to the region.
The 2007 Volunteer Awards recognise volunteer groups in five categories: heritage and environment, health and wellbeing, arts and culture, sport and leisure and educational and child/youth development
You can nominate not-for-profit groups or organisations that work in the interests of the community until Tuesday 31 July. The nomination form can be found here.
An award presentation hosted by Mayor Kerry Prendergast is to be held on Thursday 6 September. Winners will get cash prizes and recognition for the contribution they have made to the community.
Winners from Wellington City will be eligible for the regional awards, which will be announced at a function at Wellington Airport in October. The supreme winner will then go on to the national awards.
In 2006, the homegrown street festival, Cuba Street Carnival, was named the Overall Winner for staging the country's biggest free street festival.
The Cancer Society won the health and wellbeing category, Surf Life Saving Wellington took the award for sport and leisure and Plunket Johnsonville the education-child youth development category.
