Good Response To Timaru Community Awards
There’s been a good response to the TrustPower Timaru Community Awards, with 42 voluntary groups and organisations being nominated for the Awards.
Nominations for the Awards closed on Friday (29 June). The TrustPower Timaru Community Awards, which recognise and reward volunteers for the outstanding contribution they make to the Timaru community, are run in conjunction with the Timaru District Council.
TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Rebecca James says she is pleased that many wonderful groups and organisations will be celebrated and recognised through this year’s TrustPower Community Awards.
“The voluntary groups and organisations nominated for the TrustPower Community Awards represent thousands of volunteers who give thousands of hours to make their community a better place to live. Although these volunteers ask for nothing in return, it is wonderful that we can give them the recognition the TrustPower Community Awards offer,” says Rebecca James.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250. The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards being held in Wanaka in March 2008.
The Supreme Winner will also win a six month subscription to Fundraising in New Zealand magazine, New Zealand's only monthly publication dedicated to all things fundraising
The nominations for the TrustPower Community Awards are currently being prepared for judging. The TrustPower Timaru Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Monday 20 August.
