Vote for the Wellington you want at the World Cup!
Rugby lovers heading to France for the Rugby World Cup need not worry about missing out on voting in October’s Wellington City Council elections. You can have your voting paper sent to you overseas!
The Council’s Electoral Officer Ross Bly will happily redirect your voting papers to an overseas address so you can have your say in the 2007 local authority elections.
“If you are going to be away from Wellington during the period 21 September - 13 October 2007 and you want to vote, you will need to have your voting documents redirected to an alternative address in New Zealand or overseas.”
The elections are being held on Saturday 13 October 2007 and voting documents will be posted to all eligible electors throughout the country during the period 21-26 September 2007. The completed voting documents must be returned to the Electoral Officer by 12 noon on Saturday 13 October to be included in the count.
“It’s no hassle at all to
redirect your voting papers,” Mr Bly says. “This can be
to an address overseas, or
if you are on holiday or
working in another part of New Zealand during the voting
period I can send your papers to another New Zealand
address. But it’s important to remember that because the
voting document needs to be returned by 13 October, you will
need to return them to me as soon as you receive it.”
If you are voting in the Wellington city area and are going to be away during the voting period, please contact Ross Bly, (tel 801 3484, email: ross.bly@wcc.govt.nz) or the Council’s Deputy Electoral Officer Adele Gibson (tel 801 3346, email: adele.gibson@wcc.govt.nz) and they will arrange to redirect your voting documents to you on 21 September 2007. You will need to provide them (in writing either by letter or email) by Monday 27 August 2007 with the address you want the voting documents sent to.
