Dick Quaxsays “No additional taxes”

Manukau City Council’s call for a real estate transfer tax (RETT) should be vigorously opposed says mayor candidate councillor Dick Quax.

If accepted the proposal floated by the council will result in a tax being paid on every real estate transaction in the city.

“While it is described as a charge on the vendor in reality it is another charge that the buyer will pay”, said Cr Quax.

Typically the RETT will be about $3 per $1000 on the sale price adding about $10,000 to $15,000 the price of an average house Manukau house.

“We already have a housing affordability crisis in Manukau and this additional tax will just add to that. The hard working people of Manukau don’t need another tax to make it even more difficult to achieve the great Kiwi dream of home ownership’.
