New Hamilton Gardens Information Centre set to open

Hamilton Gardens marks another milestone in its commitment to enriching visitor experience and improving customer service as the upgraded Hamilton Gardens Information Centre will officially open next Monday [20 August 2007].

Hamilton mayor Bob Simcock will officially open the upgraded information centre next Monday [20 August]. The centre will be open to the public from noon with extended opening hours of seven days a week from 9am-5pm.

In addition to an increased floor-space and extended opening hours the new information centre offers several key new features, including centralised customer service, a dedicated bookings centre for booking Hamilton Gardens venues together with the provision of language guides to add value to visitor experience of the gardens. Language guides are available for Japanese, Hindi, Spanish, Korean and Simplified or Traditional Chinese speaking groups.

New technologies at the information centre include a touch-screen information kiosk and an LCD display offering information about Hamilton Gardens and other local tourist attractions.

Director of Hamilton Gardens Peter Sergel says the impetus behind the information centre upgrade was to enhance visitor experience of the Hamilton Gardens and leverage the gardens’ as a destination from which to showcase other tourist attractions throughout the city.

“Upgrade of the information centre was first proposed to Council by the Friends of Hamilton Gardens through the 2004/05 Annual Plan submissions process. Hamilton Gardens continues to draw increasing visitor numbers and we recognised the information centre as a key hub from which to give visitors a deeper understanding of the gardens and improve their experience of these while increasing accessibility of information about Hamilton’s other tourist offerings. The new centre offers a host of improvements and exciting new ways for visitors to gain greater understanding of the gardens and more indepth familiarity with Hamilton’s range of tourist options.

”Special recognition is due to the 60 rostered volunteers from the Friends of Hamilton Gardens who will attend the Information Centre each day and enable us to offer extended opening hours to Hamilton Gardens visitors.”
