Kaikohe Fire:Police Release Name of Woman Who Died


Police have released the name of the woman who died in a house fire in Kaikohe on Saturday night (Oct 6).

She was Hazel Barlow, aged 57 years from Kaikohe.

Barlow was a retired single female, who lived on her own in a pensioner flat.

The fire broke out at about 10.30pm in the bedroom of Barlow's flat on Tawanui Road, Kaikohe. Barlow woke up and tried to make it out of the flat, but collapsed and died a short while later. Ambulance attended the scene, but were unable to revive Barlow.

The New Zealand Fire Service and Police also attended the fire. Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
