Committee Chairs appointed at first meeting

Committee Chairs appointed at first meeting of new Council

2 NOVEMBER 2007

For Immediate Release

Today’s first meeting of the new Council determined Council committee memberships, delegations and appointments to external agencies.

Hamilton mayor Bob Simcock says that given Council’s endorsement from the election result, there was little need for substantial change to the way Council organises its work programme.

“During the week following the election, I had open and frank discussions with each Councillor in order to gain an appreciation of their perspective as to what’s been working and what could be improved in the way we operate. This morning’s subsequent recommendations reflect that discussion and represent a good consensus of opinion that was put to me.”

The mayor’s recommendation was accepted by Council and includes the following chair appointments:

Committee Chair

City Development Glenda Saunders
Community and Environment Daphne Bell
Statutory Management John Gower
Transport Dave Macpherson
Finance and Audit Maria Westphal

New Councillors Kay Gregory and Angela O’Leary are represented as members on various committees and are the Council representatives on the Event Sponsorship Subcommittee, reflecting their expressed interest in city promotion. Ms O’Leary has also been appointed as a committee representative on the Community Arts Council and Hamilton Creative New Zealand Fund Allocation Committee, whilst Ms Gregory is Council representative on the Envirofund Allocation Committee and the Lake Rotokauri Advisory Committee.
