Listening to the ordinary punter?

Listening to the ordinary punter?

Mayor John Banks claim that Auckland City Council is actively listening to residents “does not ring true” according to Christopher Dempsey, Chair of the Eden Albert Community Board.

“The Royal Commission met with all Councillors from North Shore, Waitakere and Manukau cities respectively, yet at Auckland City, they only got to meet with a small select group of five Councillors.”

The Royal Commission on Regional Governance is shaping up to be a golden opportunity for the region to collectively think about governance issues, yet Auckland City Council seems to be working in isolation with a select group drawn from the business community.

“The Eden Albert Community Board is the only Board in Auckland City to offer forums for residents to speak on this vital issue. Council didn’t come up with this initiative.” says Christopher.

“Auckland City Council should come clean and tell residents exactly who they are going to consult in forming their views. We have yet to hear how Council intends listening to the ordinary person in the street.”
