Built Heritage Fund grants announced

Auckland City Council has allocated its Built Heritage Fund grants for 2007/2008.

The fund provides grants to help private building owners conserve, restore and protect Auckland's built heritage totalling $50,000 each year.

Applications to the fund must be for buildings with heritage significance. Buildings also need to be on the schedule of buildings, heritage properties and places, monuments and objects of special value listed in the district plan

Grants must be used to enhance the building’s heritage. This includes essential repairs and maintenance, assistance for conservation plans or restoration and enhancement of building facades.

“The Built Heritage Fund displays the council’s commitment to helping private owners of heritage properties with the task of enhancing their historic properties and the chance to preserve those properties for the future,” says City Development Committee chairperson Councillor Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga.

“Through this fund, we recognise the considerable efforts and often high costs that owners contribute to the upkeep and care of these buildings. This fund, together with other council heritage protection measures, indicates that the council is serious about protecting our city’s history,” he says.

The recipients for 2007/2008 are:

Glenn Dillon 11 Arney Road, Remuera – Hanna House $8000

Beverly Belcher 10A Bourne Street, Mt Eden – Chapman Taylor House $8000
