Youth Week begins

Melodic death metal, a pet food drive and everything in between, Youth Week 2008 begins next week and offers young people in Hastings a wide range of events to get involved with.

Youth Week is a national awareness campaign which runs from Monday 26 May. The week has two primary objectives: breaking down youth stereotypes and providing youth focused events.

Hastings District Council and Hastings District Libraries are working with other groups to hold a number of events during the week, culminating in a concert for youth at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House Assembly Room. RELATE 08 will see performances by local bands and solo acts including Kasey, Last Man Stand, Proof of Existence, Van kinder, AZ One Krumpers –dancers, Oh 6 – Brut Force – dancers. Tickets are $4 from Hastings I-site, Havelock North Auto Court, Atomic Centre, Flaxmere College, and your local schools. Doors open at 7pm.

Design your own graphic novel character competition Open to ages 10-19, Entries close Friday May 30, Enter at Hastings Library

Chalk Drawing Art Competition, Open to ages 10-15, Wednesday 28 May 3.30-4.30pm, Hastings Library (Civic Square) Prizes up for grabs

Mural Art Display and Competition Saturday 31 May 10am - 12pm Hastings Library (Civic Square)
Signed in blood (melodic death metal) with Executive Fingerblast Wednesday 28 May from 4pm Civic Square
