Public invited to Ellerslie open days

Christchurch residents are being invited to attend two public information days next week to learn more about the operation of the Ellerslie International Flower Show.

For Christchurch to host the event in North Hagley Park from March 2009 the city must obtain a resource consent, say Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker.

"The open days are designed to provide residents with the opportunity to understand how the event operates, look at the proposed site and traffic management plans for the Show and ask any questions."

Christchurch will host its first Ellerslie International Flower Show from 11 to 15 March 2009, building on the success of past shows to develop Ellerslie into one of the top five garden shows in the world.

Mr Parker says it is important the city is updated on the show and that any concerns of affected residents, business operators and property owners located in close proximity of the Show are addressed before the resource consent application is lodged at the end of June. The resource consent will be notified.

The public information days will held in the Parkview Room, The George, 50 Park Terrace, from 11am to 8pm on Wednesday 11 June and Thursday 12 June.

Residents will be able to view the proposed site plan for the Show, discuss any concerns relating to site access and traffic management, access information regarding on-site construction timetables, learn about the resource consent process and meet with Show organisers.

Many weeks have been spent preparing the resource consent application, with a number of one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders to ensure the Show has minimum impact on the local community.

"Wider community input is now being sought before the application is lodged. This is the opportunity for residents who have any specific concerns about how the event will affect them to discuss these with the organisers," he says.
