New Wellington Wind Farm – One Step Closer

The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce is pleased Wellington City Council planners have recommended the proposed Mill Creek wind farm in the Ohariu Valley go ahead.

“Wellington’s wind offers a natural advantage for the provision of an increasingly important source of renewable energy. Taking advantage of this natural resource is a key component of the Chamber’s vision for the development of the regional economy,” said Chamber CEO Charles Finny.

“Mill Creek wind farm would enhance security of electricity supply to Wellington as well as increase the supply of electricity to the country. Investment in new electricity generation Infrastructure is essential for New Zealand particularly given recent electricity shortages.

“A new wind farm would contribute greatly towards Wellington City Council’s carbon neutral vision and would go some way toward making Wellington self sufficient in energy.

“Most importantly, Project Mill Creek would generate economic and employment growth for the region both in the short term as the wind farm is built, and on an ongoing basis,” Mr Finny concluded.
