The Police cordons in Aotea Square were removed at 2pm though inquiries into this afternoon's stabbing are continuing.
Police now believe the attack was not a random event and that there is no particular threat to public safety from those responsible.
Investigating officers are at Auckland Hospital with the victim but little information about the attack has been forthcoming from him. At this point he has declined to make a complaint.
