Council invites artists to set the scene

If you’re involved in the arts in any way – from artist to administrator – then come along to the City Council’s arts sector sessions that begin at the end of this month.

These discussions aim to set the scene for the future of the arts in Wellington and are a great opportunity to meet other people working in this sector.

The Council’s Arts and Culture Portfolio Leader, Councillor Ray Ahipene-Mercer, says the discussions will be a great way for the arts sector to build a shared vision for the next 10 years of arts in the city and think about how to turn this vision into a reality.

“These meetings are all part of our preparation for the Long-Term Council Community Plan, which sets out our direction for the next 10 years. The Council wants to work with people involved in the arts to gauge where the sector is now, where it needs to go in the future and how to work in partnership to make this happen,” he says.

Artists in Wellington have a great history of collaborating and working across genres and people are welcome to attend as many sessions as they like. Creative New Zealand and The Big Idea Trust will also present at some of the discussions. All seminars are free and lunch or supper is provided..

All sessions will be held at Capital E.

• Performing arts: Friday 29 August, 10am-4pm
• Visual arts: Saturday 30 August, 10am-4pm
• Music: Tuesday 2 September, 4pm-10pm
• Māori arts: Wednesday 3 September, 10am-4pm
• All arts forms: Saturday 6 September, 10am-4pm
• Literary arts: Wednesday 10 September, 10am-4pm
