Police Applaud Bravery In Rawene

Northland District Headquarters
Walton Plaza, Whangärei

Thursday August 21, 2008

Police are applauding the efforts of two young men who saved a woman's life in Rawene last night.

A 40-year-old man is appearing in the Kaikohe District Court today facing charges of attempted murder and kidnapping after a domestic-related attack in the Northland town.

As a result of the attack a 40-year-old woman is in Whangärei Hospital in a serious condition with multiple stab wounds.

Her 19-year-old son was walking home when he was alerted to the attack, which occurred about 10.30pm.

The offender had dragged the female victim out of the house and the victim's son had to find out where they were in the dark and then crawl through bushes to find them.

With the assistance of one of the neighbours the son has managed to get the offender off his mother.

Police say they are very impressed with the pair's bravery in the face of such a violent attack and without their intervention the woman could have died.
