David Reid Homes To Build House For Cure Kids

Media Release for immediate use: Wednesday 4 September 2008

David Reid Homes To Build House In 48 Hours For Cure Kids

David Reid Homes has just announced it will build a home over two days at the Royal New Zealand Show at Christchurch and the proceeds from the sale of the house will go to Cure Kids.

The Buildathon project is a huge undertaking but David Reid Homes (Canterbury) Managing Director Kendall Langston says the company is proud to be involved with Cure Kids.

“We’re delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause as Cure Kids. Our company sees this Buildathon as being the ideal way in which we can give something back to the community.”

Cure Kids is an organisation that is dedicated to helping young New Zealanders with life threatening illnesses. The money raised by Cure Kids funds ground breaking research and in many cases offers children the only real hope to finding a cure for their conditions.

Cure Kids South Island Funding Manager Josie Spillane says its relationship with David Reid Homes is going from strength to strength and the money raised from the Buildathon house will certainly benefit Kiwi families.

“David Reid Homes’ decision to make us their charity of choice will go a long way toward helping us achieve our medical research goals,” she says.

“Over 20,000 families in New Zealand live with a life threatening illness and their lives will be enriched by the money raised at the Buildathon.”

David Reid Homes will build a three-bedroom home on 12 and 13 November 2008 at the Royal New Zealand Show at Christchurch. An open day will be held on 14 November followed by an auction.

PGG Wrightson has come on board and will be the real estate company promoting and auctioning the home.

David Reid Homes began its links with Cure Kids in 2005 when they built a house in 24 hours during Wanakafest. This helped raise $179,000 for the charity.

David Reid Homes has since committed to three buildathon projects throughout New Zealand over the next six years to raise funds for Cure Kids, the first of which will be in Christchurch at the Royal New Zealand Show.

Kendall Langston says the Buildathon will be a real team effort.

“We are looking to our local suppliers and contractors to help us out with this project. The initial response from them has been enthusiastic so we’re just looking forward to getting in to full swing to construct a fantastic house for the auction.”

Managing Director of David Reid Homes (National), Ben Allan, says building homes for New Zealand families is what they do best.

“Building homes for Kiwi families is in our blood so what better way to give something back than to build a house to raise funds for Cure Kids. Maybe in a small way we can help lighten the load for children with an illness,” he says.
