Demolition of old Christchurch Women’s
Hospital underway
Demolition of the former Christchurch
Women’s Hospital in Colombo St, Christchurch has
started.
Canterbury District Health Board project manager
Bruce Hellyer said, “with the new Christchurch Women’s
Hospital now well and truly in place, the old buildings were
surplus to Board requirements and had become
unsafe.”
“Neighbours have been advised of the
demolition and contractors will be doing their best to
minimise noise and disruption to the local community,” he
said.
“Contractors will also be making every endeavour
to recycle materials from the building.” It is anticipated
demolition of the old hospital will be completed by the end
of March. The CDHB has yet to decide what will be done with
the land.

We collaborate with other health and disability organisations, stakeholders and our community to decide what health and disability services are needed and how to best use the funding we receive from Government to improve, promote and protect the health, wellbeing and independence of our population.
At the Canterbury DHB, our vision is to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Canterbury.
