Express bus services - more choice for North Shore

ARTA Media Release
9 September 2008

Express bus services give more choice for North Shore

From 15 September, there will be even more travel options for North Shore bus passengers as express bus services stop at Constellation, Sunnynook, Smales Farm and Akoranga stations.

The Auckland Regional Transport Authority’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert, says, “From 15 September, the express bus services 893X, 894X, 895X, 897, 87X, 76X, 85X, 86X, 900X, 956 will stop at Constellation, Sunnynook, Smales Farm and Akoranga stations to pick up or drop off passengers, both in the morning and afternoon. This will allow passengers to connect with other locations across the North Shore or to access AUT University’s Akoranga campus. These express services currently travel non-stop from Silverdale, Albany station or Sunnynook station.

“Stopping at the additional busway stations is expected to only add two minutes to the existing trip times, but we will continue to monitor all services.”

North Shore Mayor, Andrew Williams, says, “The Northern Busway is the strategic spine of North Shore City's public transport system. The changes to the express services will mean this key artery will offer a lot more flexibility. Having additional express bus services dropping off and picking up passengers will particularly help the large numbers of students accessing AUT University’s North Shore campus, which has a very convenient pedestrian overbridge from the Akoranga station.”

Passengers travelling to or from AUT University’s Akoranga campus should alight or board these express bus services at Akoranga station.

“Please ensure that you signal the driver if you wish to board or alight these express services at any of the busway stations,” Mr Lambert says.

Bus routes 920, 921, 945x and 952 will continue to use the current route and will not be stopping at Akoranga station. The 802 bus service, which currently travels via Esmonde Rd, will also remain unchanged.
