Funeral Service for AMCOS Police Officer on Thursday

A combined family and police funeral will be held for Sergeant Don Wilkinson who was fatally shot while working early Thursday morning in Mangere. The funeral for Sergeant Wilkinson, aged 47, will be held at 11 am on Thursday the 18th of September, at the Auckland Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 446 Parnell Road, Auckland.

The service format is still to be decided, Don's family are working with police on the details. A combined service is in accordance with the wishes of Don's family says Superintendent Ted Cox, Commander of Auckland Metro Crime and Operations Support (AMCOS).

At this stage, it is likely the service format will not be known in its entirety until Tuesday morning, once it is available, media will be advised. Investigation Update Investigators had earlier sought the identity of a man fishing or eeling in the creek behind 54 Hain Ave around the time Sergeant Wilkinson and his colleague were shot. Police have now spoken with this man. Sergeant Wilkinson's injured colleague continues to improve and remains in hospital.
