Dance if you do, dance if you don’t

Dance if you do, dance if you don’t

Wellington City Council’s month-long dance festival has now reached the half-way point, and residents need to get their skates, or maybe their socks on if they want to catch some of the action over the next two weeks.

The Dance Your Socks Off! festival has already had lots of sold-out events, and festival programmer, Leanne Parsons says that if people are thinking on attending or taking part in any of the events, they really need to get going.

“Bats Theatre have had full houses so far, more than 250 people are turning up to ‘Dine and Dance Off’ events at the Southern Cross each week and people were turned away from the Roller Disco in Kilbirnie last weekend – it’s been a full-on festival,” she says.

Highlights coming up include the Back of the Bus Tour with the Java Dance Troupe – a bus tour of the city’s secrets, Dress Up and Dance for children, and the final of the Dine and Dance Off series is on this weekend.

“People can also stretch their legs at Civic Square tomorrow at lunchtime at a free Cuban fusion lesson. If it rains, just go to the Town Hall,” says Leanne.

The festival has a strong focus on participation and there are lots of great dance workshops on offer for anyone keen to learn some new dance moves.

Festival brochures are available from Feeling Great stands throughout the city, Wellington City libraries, swimming pools, recreation centres, and from cafés throughout the central city. You can also download the programme from www.feelinggreat.co.nz
