Te Papa Holds A Collection Cataloguing Workshop In Marton

National Services Te Paerangi of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is holding a workshop entitled Collection Cataloguing workshop in Marton on Friday 3 October 2008 at the Rangitikei District Council Meeting Chambers.

This workshop is an opportunity for representatives from small museums, heritage organisations, the arts and cultural sector, iwi organisations, and others in the region to learn useful new skills and share ideas. People will be attending from Marton & District Historical Society, Hunterville Museum, Taihape Museum, Bulls Museum, Department of Conservation, Whanganui Riverboat Museum, Woodville Pioneer Museum, Sarjeant Gallery and the Waterwheel Historic Trust.

The workshop will be composed of a lecture-style presentation, group discussion and problem solving; as well as a practical demonstration and some hands-on practical collection tasks such as registration, cataloguing, classifying objects and databases.

The workshop will be presented by Trish Nugent – Lyne who manages a large collection with an emphasis on Whanganui social and natural history. She has advised many small museum and historical societies in the Whanganui, Rangitikei, Taranaki and Bay of Plenty on physical and database collection management procedures.

National Services Te Paerangi works with Te Papa and their mission is to strengthen the museum sector by providing practical and strategic help to museums and iwi throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Our goal is for museums and iwi to be significantly strengthened by increased participation in our programmes and by working collaboratively at a local and national level.
