One Tree Hill summit to be closed at night

Media release

One Tree Hill summit to be closed at night

The summit of One Tree Hill summit will be closed between 11pm and 7am to stop the increasing level of anti social behaviour taking place there at night.

Two gates will be installed at the Sorrento junction to stop cars going up to the summit, but the public will still be able to walk the 1km access road.

“The summit is not a safe place at night, and the time and cost of cleaning up after teenagers and other groups that have gathered there in vehicles is high,” says Councillor Greg Moyle, chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee.

“Hopefully the installation of the gates will be a long term solution to curb the drinking, vandalism and crime currently taking place,” he says.

The existing level of police and security monitoring in the park will continue.

When required for special events, the summit road opening time will be extended.

The installation date of the gates is yet to be confirmed. Projected savings of $30,000 from another project will be reallocated towards the installation of the gates.
