Man threatens staff at Wainoni Primary School

At approximately 2.15pm Wednesday 12 November 2008 a 41 year old male went onto the school grounds at the Wainoni Primary School where he made threats to shoot two staff members. The Wainoni Primary School Staff went immediately into a lockdown procedure for the safety of their children.

The male was located on the school grounds carrying a bag by armed Police and arrested. He did not have a firearm with him at the time of the incident.

He will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow charged with two counts of threatening to kill, possession of cannabis and breach of bail.

The incident was treated very serious by police due to recent overseas cases however this matter appears to be domestic related involving access to children.

The Staff and Principal at Wainoni Primary School are to be commended for their quick and decisive action.
