RC application lodged for Claudelands Arena

Resource Consent application lodged for Claudelands Arena

Hamilton City Council has applied for resource consent to build a 5000-capacity indoor arena at Claudelands Events Centre.

The proposed multipurpose arena is part of a major redevelopment project at Claudelands Events Centre, which would see the facility transformed into a premier event and conference venue for Hamilton. Sitting alongside a 1,500-capacity conference centre and upgraded exhibition facilities, the arena is expected to attract top national and international events to the city

Situated adjacent to the frontage with Brooklyn Road, near to but set back from the intersection with Heaphy Terrace/Grey Street, the arena has a proposed footprint of approximately 6,600m2 and a built height of approximately 22.5m.

Facilities Manager Mark Christie said the arena is designed to be an integral part of Claudelands Events Centre.

“The arena is proposed to become a focal point for exciting events, vibrancy and economic activity, and generate tremendous city pride,” he said. “Its realisation would deliver a major draw-card for everything from conferences, concert and performances, to sporting events, exhibitions and banquets.”

Public notification for the Resource Consent application for the Arena was given last Wednesday, 19 November.

A Public Open Day will be held at the Waldorf Lounge, Claudelands Event Centre on Tuesday, 25 November from 3pm-6.30pm for members of the public wanting to ask questions and find out more about the project.

The notification period for the resource consent application ends 17 December.
