Greater Wellington acknowledges businesses preventing pollution

Eight businesses in Grenada North and two in Wellington City are the latest to complete Greater Wellington's Take Charge programme, in the process helping to build a more sustainable region.

The businesses are Wagg & Harcombe Limited, Ergoform Ltd, Ice Point, Prestige Print (1965) LTD, MG Marketing, Turners and Growers, Team Wgtn - Five Star Fmeg, Advanced Engineering, McKee-Fehl Constructors Ltd, Rapid Metal Developments, Coq Au Vin, and RH Freeman & Co Ltd.

They're being presented with Take Charge sustainable business achievement certificates for reducing their impact on the environment.

The Take Charge programme helps businesses develop workable solutions to every day environmental issues like business wastes, recycling, energy efficiency, air discharges, or contamination.

"With Take Charge we aim to help businesses run better and help the environment at the same time," Greater Wellington Regional Council Regulatory Committee Chair Sally Baber says.

"We would like to congratulate the businesses who have undertaken the programme. It is encouraging to see their commitment towards building a more sustainable region."

Stephanie Walker of Prestige Print -  a silver accredited member of Enviro-Mark NZ - says the Take Charge audit was really useful.

"It helped us identify and minimize our potential risk to the environment, which is an objective of our environmental policy."
