SummerTimes Lazy Weekends starts this Saturday

SummerTimes Lazy Weekends starts this Saturday

Lazy Weekends, the Garden City’s SummerTimes offering of everything restful and gentle in music, will start this Saturday.

Slow, leisurely, unhurried, easy. Relaxed, restful. Laid-back, gentle: Lazy Weekends builds on the unique success of last year’s Lazy Sundays at the Christchurch City Botanic Gardens.

The first weekend offering is folksy with The Ragamuffin Children at the Art Centre on Saturday and the Denny Stanway Trio at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday.

The 3 Piece Lounge, with the wonderfully powerful vocals of Denny Stanway, backed by the exquisite finger picking of guitarists Jon Hooker and James Wilkinson, starts at 3.30 pm.

Denny and Jon are well known performers at the Christchurch Folk Music Club and are among Canterbury's finest exponents of acoustic music. James Wilkinson brings his exceptional bass playing and vocals to the mix. Individually, they have performed and recorded with many other musicians and are continuously involved in a variety of other musical projects.

The Ragamuffin Children, the Alt-Folk duo from Christchurch expecting to release their second album next month, starts off Lazy Weekends at the South Quad of the Arts Centre at 2.30 pm on Saturday.

Anita Clark (vocalist, fiddle, guitar) is renowned for her soulful and sincere voice which resonates with a pure and unique quality while Brooke Singer (keyboard, songwriter) is an accomplished songwriter and a pianist with a distinctly original playing style. The duo offer beautifully crafted songs that are performed with imagination and soul, and their unique rapport with the audience creates a cosy and intimate ambience.
