Weekend Weather Change
Weekend Weather Change
After a week of dry weather, Wellington and Southland are likely to experience a wet start to their anniversary weekends.
MetService meteorologists expect rain from a passing front to spread over Southland on Friday before moving north over the South Island on Saturday and the North Island on Sunday.
"This will be the third weekend in a row that Wellington has had some rain after a dry week", commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "For Wellingtonians, rain is likely to set in late on Saturday, and then clear during Sunday. For Anniversary Day, Wellington is likely to be mainly fine with temperatures reaching 19 degrees."
For Southlanders, it will be a different story. "A low pressure centre should follow the front across Southland and this is likely to bring further rain on Sunday, possibly heavy for a time in eastern Southland, with a change to cold southerly winds dropping the day-time high to around 15 degrees. This rain should ease to showers later on Anniversary Day Monday."
People planning outdoor activities for their long weekend are advised to first check the latest weather forecasts.
