Dance the night away
Dance the night away
From salsa to swing, hip hop to bebop, Dancing Under the Stars 2009 is ready to showcase all the hottest dance styles in Christchurch.
Dancing Under the Stars brings together demonstrations of the dancing styles spanning the decades, offering the audience a chance to learn stylised moves from professionals and enthusiasts while enjoying a night’s entertainment.
The free family event is on Friday, February 13 at Crosbie Park from 6pm to 9pm and the style selection ranges from swing to hip hop, ballroom to Latin, new vogue to jump jam.
The FAB 3, lip-syncing some of the great generational songs, will invite audience participation as different groups demonstrate to their music, says Ken Howat, Community Recreation Advisor Fendalton/Waimairi.
The comically costumed and choreographed impersonation act is a local icon and the music they cover includes ABBA, Elvis Presley, The Exponents, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Neil Diamond and The Monkees.
Get your family and friends together, pack a picnic tea or buy some food onsite and be ready for a fabulous night., says Mr Howat. Dancing Under the Stars was not held last year because of bad weather.
Dancing Under the Stars is a Christchurch City Council initiative organised by the Council’s Recreation and Sports Unit and funded by the Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board.
If wet, event will be held at Russley School Hall.
