Bring the kids to Truby King Park for National Children's Day
The Truby King House and Garden Trust are inviting families to celebrate national Children's Day at Truby King Park, in Melrose near Newtown Zoo on Sunday 1 March from 1-4pm.
National Children's Day is an ideal time to spend with the family and come to Truby King Park for National Children's Day. Learn about the pioneering career of Sir Truby King in developing children’s welfare in New Zealand as founder of Plunket.
Relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and activities for the whole family. The event is part of the Fringe festival 2009 and is organised by the Truby King House and Garden Trust, in partnership with the Wellington City Council and this year Plunket and local community have come on board to help promote and run the event. It provides the rare opportunity to visit this private 1920’s house and learn about New Zealand’s heritage and local history.
Parking is available offsite on Manchester street and Rodrigo street and entry to the Children's Day event is free, as are the activities. A range of guest speakers, guided garden tours and interactive activities and stalls may ask for a couple of dollars donation. There is no Eftpos at the site, so bring along some cash.
Refreshments will be for sale by local community groups, and families are welcome to bring a picnic and settle under one of the beautiful Rhodadendrons overlooking spectacular views from Mt Melrose over the bays.
Truby King Park is a great family park it is a nationally significant botanic garden and historic house with picnic spots, and offers a myriad of gentle walks and is half way along the popular Southern Walkway. A variety of native birdlife can be seen in an atmosphere of a secret garden with a rich history making a visit to Truby King Park an enjoyable and learning experience for all.
