RNZAF Air Show This Saturday
The skies above Auckland will be buzzing with the sound of aircraft of all shapes and sizes for the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Whenuapai’s biennial Air Show and Open Day this Saturday 21 March.
The day gives the public the chance to interact directly with RNZAF personnel and gain a better understanding of the activities, roles, and benefits that the Air Force provides New Zealand.
Commanding Officer Base Auckland, Wing Commander Richard Marshall says the runways at the base have been busy with overseas aircraft arriving and practice flights getting underway.
“Last night two Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18 Hornets arrived and today the crew will be preparing for their practice flight later this afternoon at 3.45pm.
“I really encourage Aucklanders and those from further afield to come out to Base Whenuapai on Saturday as the Air Show is a great day out for the whole family.
“The RNZAF is entering an exciting period with new or significantly upgraded aircraft coming on line over the next ten years and we will have on display in the air and on the ground the first of these aircraft, the Boeing 757,” said WGCDR Marshall.
In addition to an impressive flying line-up will be ground displays by the various trades in the RNZAF including Fire Fighters, Air Security, Medics Avionics and Technical Support areas that enable air operations.
There will be stalls for people to purchase refreshments and picnic areas for those who have brought their own.
