Centennial Closing For Upgrade

MEDIA RELEASE                                                   April 2009

Centennial Closing For Upgrade

The Centennial Recreation and Sport Centre is closing on Monday evening (13 April) for scheduled maintenance.

The fitness centre will re-open on Wednesday 22 April; and the pools will re-open on Monday 4 May.

The fitness centre will have a make-over that includes painting, new signage and installation of new, state of the art Technogym equipment - progressively being rolled out around the Council’s Recreation and Sport Centres.

In the pool area, all tiles will be re-grouted, broken tiles will be replaced, there will be new signage and some repainting.

“Centennial is hugely popular, and has a large number of people moving through the fitness centre and pools each day - especially during term time.  This all takes its toll on the facilities, and closing down to do maintenance means that we can get on with the job much faster,” according to Ian Whitehead, Southern Area Recreation Manager.

QEII Park, Pioneer and Jellie Park will remain open throughout the Centennial closure.

“We’re sorry we have to close, but it will be for the shortest possible time and then we’ll be back - looking better than ever and sporting amazing new equipment that will make it all worthwhile,” says Ian Whitehead.
