The Toyota Hilux Ute, reg ETU 351 thought to be driven by William Stewart was located by police at 11.45am this morning in the Mt Somers/ Staverley area.

Senior Sergeant Stu Munro advises people be in that area to be extra vigilant locking their houses, sheds and vehicles.

"Remember it is already three hours between the last sighting and the recovery of the vehicle and he could already be out of the district."

Any suspicious behaviour or sightings of Stewart or any hitch hikers should be reported to Police immediately on 111.

When last seen, Stewart was unshaven and could now have a short beard. He is 47 years old, a caucasian male, 177cms tall, thin build, but has cut his long straggly hair into a rough no 2 cut.

Police are currently conducting an intensive search in the area where the vehicle was found.
