Witnesses to fire at a Ruakaka sought

Whangärei Police are seeking witnesses to fire at a Ruakaka community centre early this morning.

About 5.30am Police received a call from a Ruakaka shop owner who said that Bream Bay Recreation Centre had been broken into and another building was on fire.

Police and the Fire Service attended the scene. The Bream Bay Community Support Trust was extensively damaged by fire and the Bream Bay Recreation Centre had been damaged by the break-in.

Police are investigating the fire and burglary and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity around the Ruakaka town centre in the early hours of this morning up until 7 am.
