Mayor welcomes outcome of phone-threat inquiry

Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast has welcomed news that police have traced and interviewed the person whose telephone call sparked an increase in security in her office.

Inspector Peter Cowan has reported to the Mayor that the man told officers he had not intended the call to be perceived as a threat and was upset at the chain of events he had sparked.

Mayor Prendergast said: “I understand he has received an official warning and is genuinely remorseful. They have suggested he apologise in writing to me and I look forward to receiving that apology and putting this whole episode behind us.”

The Mayor will make no further comment on this issue.
