Spruce Up For Nelson Kindergarten
Spruce Up For Nelson Kindergarten
Teachers, children and
parents at Victory Square Kindergarten will benefit from
improvements to the building, which have just been
completed.
The additions and alterations will be
blessed at a ceremony on Friday. They include the expansion
of the office and storage areas, a new office for the family
liaison worker and a Whanau Room for community
use.
The work cost $120,000 and was funded by the
Nelson District Kindergarten Association.
Wendy Logan, CEO
of the Nelson District Kindergarten Association said the
developments open up a whole new aspect for use of the
kindergarten.
“The Whanau Room gives groups a
place for activities that support the Victory Square
community, she said. “The room will be used for budget
advice, cooking groups, nurse visits, support groups for ESL
and just as a place where the kindergarten community can
meet to share a coffee and build
relationships.”
Head Teacher of Victory Square
Kindergarten, Donna Bishop, said the Whanau Room would also
be used by teachers to work with small groups of
children.
“We can use it to strengthen the
transition to school programme,” she said. “Teachers
will have an environment where they can extend children’s
thinking and provide challenges without
interruption.”
The blessing of the new facilities
is at 1.30 pm on Friday 14
August.
