Hamilton stabbing release 2

Hamilton Police investigating the suspicious death of a man in the suburb of Melville overnight have credited public assistance for the quick locating of a vehicle linked to the inquiry.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of the Hamilton CIB said the blue and silver Toyota Lucida people-mover was found by a Police patrol in Mahoe St mid-afternoon.

"This came about after a call from a member of the public following media coverage of the incident which is being investigated as a suspicious death and was reported as a stabbing.

"A post-mortem to establish the cause of death will be carried out in Auckland tomorrow morning," he said.

Mr Page said a homicide inquiry was launched after Police were called by ambulance staff to the Catalina Dr address about 5.45pm yesterday.

"On their arrival officers found the unresponsive 46-year-old victim at the property and commenced CPR and were quickly joined by attending ambulance staff.

"After about 40 minutes this was deemed to have been unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead. He was known to the occupants of the home and his name has not yet been released."

With the inquiry in its infancy Mr Page said it was too early for Police to comment on the circumstances of the man's death as investigators are still interviewing those linked to the address.

"There appears to be no links to drugs or gangs in relation to this incident however this inquiry is still in the very early stages and the facts of what happened are a long way off being established," he said.
