Countdown On To Find Local Volunteers
Countdown On To Find Local Volunteers
Local community groups have just a few more days to ensure they are part of Far North’s biggest celebration of voluntary groups.
Nominations for the inaugural TrustPower Far North Community Awards are closing at 5:30pm on Friday 11 September. The Awards, run in conjunction with the Far North District Council, recognise and reward voluntary groups and organisations for the outstanding contribution they make to their community.
The voluntary group named this year’s Supreme Winner at the TrustPower Far North Community Awards will attend the next TrustPower National Community Awards in Nelson Tasman in March 2010.
This is the first year the Awards have been held in the Far North, and TrustPower Community Relations Representative Teresa Partridge says the response so far has been outstanding.
“Volunteers are often not recognised for the work they do in their community. The work undertaken is invaluable, and it is up to every resident to show their appreciation to those working to improve their communities.
“Volunteers in Far North dedicate thousands of hours to their communities, you need to give just five minutes of your time to ensure they get the recognition they deserve,” says Mrs Partridge.
The awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners up take home $250. The Overall Winner receives $1,500 and the opportunity to attend, at no cost, the National Community Awards.
Anyone can nominate a group or organisation for the TrustPower Far North Community Awards – voluntary groups and organisations can even nominate themselves. But act now because nominations close on Friday 11 September.
Nomination Forms for the TrustPower Community Awards are available from the Council offices or service centres or can be downloaded from www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards. Nomination Forms can also be received by texting the word ‘TRUST’ to 244 or call Community Relations on 0800 87 11 11.
The Awards will be presented at a function on Monday 19 October.
